    Copy custom view not working

    Hi folks,

The manual says to copy a custom view, I drag it from the view preferences to the desktop.

Tried, failed, several times. I get the green "+" as I hover over the desktop as if it's going to copy there, but when I go to the desktop, the view has not copied. So I can't bring it into a new file.

    Any thoughts?

It could be that there is already a view with the same name on your Desktop.

You could try creating a new empty folder on your Desktop and dropping the view into the new folder.

There aren't any views on my desktop—I've never tried this feature before as I didn't know it existed. :-) Hoping to save myself time now, re-doing a custom view, but like many things with computer voodoo, saving time is taking time...

Tried your folder idea anyway before posting this answer—same thing. I get the green + but it doesn't actually copy.

Here are two things to try...

        1. Try dragging one of the default views to the Desktop, this way we will know if this is a problem with your custom view.

        2. Try dragging your custom view to the same folder where your family file is located, this will let us know if the problem is unique to the Desktop folder.

Tried 1 —dragging the default view to the desktop works.

Tried 2 —can't drag the custom view to the Dropbox folder where my family file is located.

          :-(

It sounds like there's a problem specific to the custom view.

Make sure there's no punctuation in the name of the view - for example periods or slashes.

Also, try selecting your custom view and and clicking the "Duplicate View" button. See if you can drag the duplicated copy of the custom view to your Desktop.

If all of the above fails, please send a copy of your family file to our help@leisterpro.com address so we can see where things are going wrong.

Punctuation was the answer. I had "View w/ flags." When I changed to "View w flags," it worked fine. Looks like punctuation should be disallowed there.

              Thanks, Gregg!

We will address the problem of dragging views with punctuation in the name in a future update.

Thanks for your help in finding the cause of this problem.
