    Switched at birth.

Confused as to how to enter a switched at birth situation. The only way I could figure out was to "Add father using search" as "Add father from sidebar" didn't work. Long story is that I had to use "Duplicate" from each child's parents. The children from each set of parents now show both children, with same dob, with one tagged as 'duplicate'.

YES, as hard to believe as it sounds, it is now a proven fact. If anyone wishes to know the whole story, send me an eMail address or a cell # & I'll forward a link. I do not have permission to blabber this all over the internet.

When using "Add Father from the Sidebar" to add a father in Reunion, Reunion automatically adds the surname of the current father in the search box at the top of the sidebar on the right. If that was what you saw, the solution would have been to edit the surname shown in that search box.

I.e., when a child is shown under a father with the surname of Jones and you are wanting to add a father with the surname of Smith, you would need to edit the search at the top fo the sidebar after selecting "Add Father from the Sidebar" so it shows...
    [males only] <Smith>
    ...instead of...
    [males only] <Jones>

I hope you find this suggestion helpful

However, if you were seeing something else, please let me know and we'll go from there.

Thanks Deb. That's exactly what I saw using sidebar. I got it figured out bye using "Add father using search", then clicking Duplicate. I just thought there might be a different or better way to record this odd relationship.

The only anomaly, is that the person that used to be a relative (1C1R) still shows as that, even though she is no longer such. Is there a way to delete that without affecting the same relationship with the correct parents?

Try rebuilding cache files (by choosing File -> Rebuild Cache Files and clicking Rebuild) and recalculating relationships for the source person.

If that does not do the trick and you would like us to look into it further, please send your family file to us. Information on how to do so can be found here...
