Problem with superscript source numbers with citations in reports

The superscript source numbers with citations in family history reports are causing the next line to also be tiny. And sometimes it's just tiny even though there isn't a source number in the preceding line. For Example:

    Spouse: Ruth LEWIS553,54, F
    Birth: 1 Oct 1805, New Jerseyi263, Roll: M432_776, p. 332A, Image: 656,553
It doesn't happen very often but I can't find a way to fix it when it does happen. Frustrating.

Since I posted this yesterday the problem has gotten much worse. I should probably have said that I'm using Reunion 13 and Pages 11,2.

Why am I not getting any response?

So far, we have not been able to duplicate this issue here.

I'm curious: if you select a different word processor (e.g. TextEdit) in Reunion -> Preferences... , Reports, Word Processor, and send the report there instead, do you see the same issue? One possibility is that this is caused by a bug in Pages, though I can't be certain at this time.

It's also possible there's something in the data in the family file that is messing up the formatting of the report. If you're willing to send it, I'd like to use your family file to try to duplicate the issue -- you can send it to us as outlined here

...I can't find a way to fix it when it does happen.
You should be able to select the text and change the text size using the controls in Pages, though as I can't duplicate it here, I can't verify that will work.

Why am I not getting any response?

Thanks for answering Mark - I miss the digest.

Tried Text Edit - the source numbers are same size as the rest of the material - not tiny - so...

I can't edit as expected in Pages because when I click on the material that's become tiny it says it's 12pt which is what I have the report set at. I have found a clumsy way around it by increasing the incorrect small stuff to 18pt but that, of course, causes extra space between lines.

I did a similar family history report (different people) a year ago and didn't have this problem.

Sorry, I didn't know, or forgot, about technical issues on the forum. Wait until you're 82 & I bet you'll forget a few things, too!!

UPDATE: I just tried opening another new report that uses the same format and there's no problem with it! I had hoped I could figure out a way to combine reports for this family but decided against it so kept the 2nd report. There is some duplication of people between the two reports

UPDATE 2: I think I've found the problem - I realized that the 2nd report didn't have the citations for the sources so ran it again with citations and now it has the same problem as the first report.

Try selecting the text, then click the Show Advanced Options... icon on the right in Pages, and change the Baseline option to Default:

It could be that Pages is still applying the Superscript to the text.

Having said that, I would still be interested in testing with your family file, if you're willing to send it to us (see my previous post for instructions). That will hopefully be helpful in determining exactly what's causing the issue.

          Thanks,

I tried changing the Baseline option to Default as you suggested and that worked. Initially that's what I thought: that Pages is apparently applying the Superscript to the text. However, why does it happen on a line following a line with no source numbers? For example: this iis under a preferred picture which is captioned with Emma's name:

Emma Celestia or Salesta or Celeste Emma ALGER

Spouse: Emma Celestia or Salesta or Celeste Emma ALGER140, [Celestia only],271, [Salesta],297, [Emma C.],487, [Celeste Emma], Grandmother, F (2 Mar 1862-Mar 1942)
Birth: 2 Mar 1862, Sparta, Monroe County, Wisconsin266, [month/year/state],72,2075, Celesta E Mason [year]
Census: 1870, Leon, Monroe County, Wisconsin, age: 7297, Roll: M593_1729 Page: 74 Image: 149

Formatting is lost when copying but it's as expected. You can see that it reverts to the correct size for the 1870 census. It's unpredictable and very weird (and annoying).

As I said above, there's something about choosing the source option with captions that apparently triggers this problem. Have you tried that? It may very well be a problem in Pages but then why didn't it happen in the other report that I initially did without captions?

I'm not unwilling to send you my file except that I promised my husband's niece that I would have this to her a month ago so since you've given my a temporary solution I'd like to keep working. I need my file open so that I can make needed corrections to the file when I find them as I proofread through the report.

Yes, that option has been enabled in our testing.

...why didn't it happen in the other report that I initially did without captions?
That I'm not sure of -- we would need to determine what caused the problem in the first place.

              ...I'd like to keep working.
You can keep working with the file if you send it to us, in this case. You'll just be sending us a copy, the original will remain on your Mac and you would be able to use it.

So, I finally have the time to send you the file and went to the page with instructions on what to do. First thing I saw was "After sending us the family file, do not make any changes to the family file until you hear from us." As I explained above, I'm making numerous changes as I work through the report.

That doesn't apply in this case -- in most cases we wouldn't want you making any changes, but in this case it's OK for you to continue working with the file, as I mentioned previously.

Mark: Would this be an indication of using Control Returns instead just hitting the Return or Enter key? If so, would that play into the problem? Just some out loud thinking....

Mark, I've switched to a Register report and there are no problems! Before doing this I tried to send you my file but couldn't figure out a way to do so since it's too big for any of your options. One of the reasons I don't use Dropbox. I thank you for your time but if I'm going to get these reports done I better stick to doing that. BTW I forgot to say that before doing the other report I had just installed the latest update.
