    Can't check for updates...

    Tried to check for updates manually today before getting into my work, and I got this message:

    "You currently have version 13.0, however Reunion was unable to get version information from the Leister Productions web site.

    "Reason given 'The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "www.leisterpro.com" which could put your confidential information at risk.'"



    I've never seen this happen before. Maybe it's my old Mac, yikes—but in case it's something on Leister's end, I thought I'd post it here.

    (I hope it doesn't mean I can no longer get updates in some way... directly from the website maybe... even if automatically or manually aren't possible. A newer Mac just isn't in the wallet for me right now.)

    Just checked from my Mac... Got the usual Reunion "You are up to date" dialog box.

      Yes. Macs running macOS 10.12 or earlier will see this issue.

      Reunion is trying to check for updates. But, your Mac has an out-of-date root certificate and can’t verify that our website is valid.

      Basically, for any website that uses encryption (HTTPS), like ours, there is a "Root Certificate” on your Mac that is used to verify the certificate provided by our website is valid. The Root Certificate used in this case is out of date on your Mac — Apple didn’t update 10.12 or older to add the up-to-date certificate. You’ll likely notice problems with other websites, e.g. Wikipedia.org won’t work/will be marked as “insecure."

      You can still manually install updates by downloading the latest version from our website and installing it:


      But the check for updates option will continue to give this error.

      Apple’s technical support should be able to provide a means of updating the root certificate. If you choose to contact Apple's technical support, mention an issue with the “Let’s Encrypt certificate.”

          FYI, you should be able to upgrade your 2012 MBP beyond macOS 10.11.6. I also have a 2012 MBP (13 inch, 2.5ghz Dual-Core i5) and am running macOS 10.15 on it.

          Upgrading to macOS 10.13 or newer would fix this issue.

            Hm. That's interesting. Thanks, Mark. Not sure why, but every time I've tried it has told me I can't—I'll try it again and see if it has changed it's mind. :-)

                I have an iMac running macOS Monterey Version 12.2.1 and noticed I haven't seen any automatic update messages for several weeks, so I manually checked for updates and got this message, similar to the one above:

                  This is not related to the issue Kelly is seeing.

                  Do you have any firewall (e.g. LittleSnitch) or anti-virus software (e.g. McAfee) installed? If so, you should check it's settings to make sure it isn't blocking Reunion from accessing the internet.

                    Mark, I have the built-in Mac Firewall turned on, and also run Trend Micro Antivirus for Mac. Since I posted on March 10, I did get an automatic check for updates that succeeded and found none, so I'll chalk this up to a temporary glitch.
