is there a way to force the aspect ratio of photos added to Multimedia to be Square ? I've tried control keys, but nothing seems to make it snap to square.

It's not currently possible to automatically make the ratio a square. You would have to use the cropping tool in the Media window to manually crop the image, or edit the image using some other application (e.g. Preview) before adding it to Reunion.
