Quality of Cropped photos

How do you crop your photos? Especially when you want just a headshot out of a group photo. I just open a copy of the photo in preview, crop who I want and save. It looks fine. But when I then drop it on the person I want, it looks fine as the default small photo, but sometimes when I open it full size it's very pixely. It doesn't happen with every photo, but more often than not.

Basically there is little or nothing you can do about a pixelly photo. I use Pixelmator, which gives one a bit more control, but actually Preview is not bad! In either case, try adjusting brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc (not expecting too much). But really, there is no substitute for more pixels in that group photo you started with, so if you have the original, scan it again at a higher resolution. This should help, but it may still to some degree disappoint. Wish there were more help to give!

Why bother to crop photos? It's not necessary. With the tools offered in the Multimedia window, one can hide whatever part of a photo one wants so that the display only shows that small part. It also partially solves the pixelation problem because one is not playing with the size of the photo.

I have never used the crop function in Reunion honestly, and I also wanted to keep the original group photo, but have the headshot essentially to be the default photo on my person card. When cropping in Reunion, does it allow for this?

Kellie: Imagine that you have a photo of six people. Get a piece of paper and cut out a square or rectangle at the right size to fit a head in that photo. Now cover the photo and slide the paper around until the wanted person shows through your cutout. The other five people are still there but they are hidden by the piece of paper.

That, in a nutshell, is what the "cropping" function in Reunion's multimedia does. It is not the same as true cropping that you would do with photo editing software. Hopefully, this helps you.

I am guessing (intelligently) that for photos going into the ReunionTouch app that the application creates a thumbnail of only the part that one has made visible. That would be up to Leister staff to confirm (or say something different). I've been playing with photo editing software for lots of years and that would make sense to me.
