    Dropbox troubleshooting

Hello. I'm using Reunion 13. Dropbox won't open on my Mac (using Catalina) so I uploaded my family file to dropbox online. When I try to "Select a Family File on Drop Box" on my ipad it's shaded out and I can't click on it to select. What am I missing here?

If anyone knows why dropbox won't open on my computer that would be helpful too. The icon at the top bar justs spins when I click on it. I've thrown it away and reinstalled but no luck.
    Thanks,
    Janice

I'm guessing now but I don't think you need to upload your family file to Dropbox. It already resides within the Dropbox app on your computer. What you need to do is remove it from Dropbox on-line (as its already on your iMac) then open Reunion Touch on your iPad, select "connect to d/box" then select your family file from the files on this device.
I'm sure you will find this fixes your dilema.

Thank you Alan, but that didn't work. I deleted the familyfile.zip as you suggested and it didn't then show up on the ipad reunion folder. It's still grayed out.

I read somewhere that the reunion file has to be uploaded to the dropbox on my computer, but the issue I'm having is dropbox won't open on my computer. So I resorted to uploading my reunion fle to dropbox online. Could that be an issue? If so my problem is with dropbox...

Your family file should be placed in the Dropbox folder on your Mac. There's no need to zip the family file and there is no need to go to the Dropbox web site to upload anything.

Once Dropbox has been installed and is running on your Mac - files put in your Mac's Dropbox folder will be uploaded to the Dropbox 'cloud' and will then be accessible in ReunionTouch.

Please see this page for a more complete explanation...

Well, I thank you. It seems then to be a dropbox problem because dropbox will not open on my Mac--it just spins and never opens. I've thrown it away and reinstalled it once, but I'll try again.

So here I am again at the same spot after throwing dropbox away and reinstalling it; finding it on my desktop and dragging my newest Reunion file into it and then going to the ipad and signing in as requested. Still grayed out and unreachable... Is there no other way to upload my Reunion file to the ipad?

Bob & Janice 2021 is totally different from Bob & Janice 2023!
Also Bob & Janice 2023 is zipped. You cannot have a zipped family file on Dropbox if you want to sync them.

Was renaming it a problem? In Reunion "Get Info" the file is called /Application/Bob&Janice2023.familyfile13. I can't seem to move it out of the Applicaiton folder. Is that a problem? Where should I start with fixing this?

Having spend hours over the past couple of days with Deb and Greg trying to fix Dropbox sync problems, in my particular case, the following turned out to be what worked: https://www.leisterpro.com/doc/v-13/.../dbxonline.php

Hopefully, it will help you. This is indeed a Dropbox problem caused, IMO, by their latest "update". The link above is right out of the Reunion User Manual and I was told by Deb that Leister has no way to let all users know of these problems.

Thanks Herb, maybe this will help at some point (and now the link lives here in this "Dropbox Troubleshooting thread), but I neither have a green checkmark or a gray cloud on my file. What I see in my dropbox sharing status is "This file is not being shared" (in red).

I think I have the right name now and the right file is in the drop box on my computer. But syncing isn't happening yet... I'm wondering if reinstalling Reunion on my ipad might help--that would require throwing it away and I'm always nervous about doing that....

BTW, the "Missing "reset sharing" button" thread is useful information.

Just to followup, I fixed the problem! First of all: restart the computer when all else fails! It took more than that, but in the end when I restarted everyting fell into place: green checkmarks after syncing; sharing status OK. Not sure what exactly worked other than my persistence and reading as many posts and suggestions as I could (thank goodness for these threads!) and of course the software manual. Phew!
