I have created a Notes field called Research in which for various people I have added outlines for research projects involving those people. I should like to generate a report which shows those people by name, ideally with their PIDs, and the content of the Research Notes field. Nothing else. In short, it summarises my outstanding current research all in one report. Is that possible, and if so how can I generate such a report.

One option to get a report listing the person's name, their Person ID, and the Research Notes field would be to search for people who have information in that field. (I.e., do an Advanced Find for people for whom the Research note field is "not" empty. Then, after the Results sidebar opens on the right, click on the List icon at the bottom. Next, change the fields shown in that list window to include just the Last Name, First & Mid Name, Person ID#, and Research note field. To print that listing, select your word processor (i.e., TextEdit, Pages, Word, etc.) from the Sharing Results button (blue box with arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the list window. The formatting may be a little strange depending on the content of your Research Notes.
Another option would be to unmark everyone in your family file and mark the people in the Results list. Then, create a Person Sheet report for each marked person. Note: when setting up that report, simply select the Research Notes field and the Person ID to include in it.
I hope you find one of these suggestions to be viableDeb Stuller

The Person Sheet approach will preserve the full content of the Research Notes, but as Deb alluded to, you will probably want to create a unique Person Sheet Layout in which you select Research Notes as the only Person Field to appear in the report, and in the "Append to Names" section of the Layout, check only the box for "ID Number." Uncheck all boxes for "Family Fields" and "Spouse Fields." The resulting output will include a section naming the spouses, parents and children of each person, and I don't think that can be suppressed via the Layout specifications.
