    Last name field

I'm wondering if there was a change to the last name field or if it's a setting that I have changed.

I do a lot of family research in old church records from South Bohemia and some records are recorded with a family name or a house name or both. I've been adding both names but using the term vulgo which is latin for also known as. And sometimes I use the word "also", or "na" which is an abbreviation for born as. As of today, the additional words I'm using in the surname field are now being capitalized and I can't change the first letter to be a lower case letter.

    Example:
What I had in the name field: Nerúd vulgo Bárta; Nerúd na Bárta
What it has been changed to: Nerúd Vulgo Bárta; Nerúd Na Bárta

It there anyway that I can change the surname filed to be a free form field? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thank you for your time.

Click on either person in the middle of the family card to bring up the edit person widow. In the name tab window that should open first, make sure that Initial Caps is NOT checked. You will find that setting in the lower right hand corner of the edit name panel above the source citations lists.

Find more info about capitalization of names in the Names section of the Manual (which is opened by clicking on the question mark at the bottom left hand corner of the Reunion window.)

As noted you can turn off Initial Caps

      or

You can enter what you want into the field, and instead of pressing Tab to get to the next field, use Option-Tab - this will over-ride the setting of Initial Caps, and leave the words as you entered them.
