    importing people from a spreadsheet ...

    I have many new people that I'd like to add to a Reunion tree. I have their names and contact info in a spreadsheet (which I can export to most any format). How can I import that into Reunion -- creating new records for each person?

    Step ZERO: make a backup of your familyfile !

    1. Export the XLS data in TAB delimited format.
    2. Open Reunion
    3. File --> Import --> Text...

    If I were you, I'd create a DUMMY family file and Import your XLS data there first -- as a test bed, experiment, etc. One you're happy with the results, import to your actual familyfile.

      Having done as you suggested, I now have a familyfile that contains just the new folks. None of them, however, have a sex noted.
      I do not see how to do a batch change of gender. Is that possible? How can I change folks?

        I would suggest going back to your spreadsheet and adding a "Sex" column, then re-importing. It's going to be much easier to edit that information in a spreadsheet than to do so one at a time in Reunion.

          I agree with Brad. Edit the spreadsheet file to add gender.

          Then delete the "dummy/test' file and start over. And to reiterate my original answer, once you see the import is working correctly, then repeat the import into your actual FamilyFile.
