    Hi Judy,

I'm afraid my file appears to be alright having sent it to Reunion for testing. All the suggestions put forward like trying "starting in Safe Mode, Restarting, checking Multimedia Usage, Duplicates etc.

    all proved OK".

I have now Quit Dropbox in the hope that may have been the cause and will only switch it back on when I'm ready to sync to my iPad.

During me entering info into my f/file I received a pop-up to the effect that D/box was downloading a file!!! (I was unable to capture an image as it dis-appeared before I had the opportunity to record it).

Sometime later I also got a pop-up from Reunion as shown in the attached. (I sent this Leister folks but like me, they have never seen this before).

I am also in the process of removing some apps that I do not use anymore.

So far, all of the above that has had no effect, so I can only say it must be my ageing mac.

I'll take this up with Apple Techs in the hope they can come up with something else. If successful i'll report back.

    Alan

Sorry, alan, that your issue has not been resolved. I have never seen that message from Dropbox/Reunion before!

Reunion is running better. I have no clue what I did to fix it.

Fingers crossed you find a fix. It is REALLY annoying for sure. Report back if anything changes.

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? I am not sure if you have Safe Mode available for your model Mac or how to do it but supposedly it does fix some “things” under the hood. It has helped me in the past.

To finish off this saga, I have now had a new hard-drive (2tb SSD) installed in my iMac and all is running

as it should, in fact I find it much sharper than before - no more spinning beachballs/slow gears etc.

There was a hiccup along the way which has now been rectified but all good now.

I'm assured this upgrade should extend the mac's life possibly for another few years - fingers crossed as there doesn't appear to be a replacement coming soon

Alan: My 27" iMac is a couple years newer but definitely getting long in the tooth. I have the MacBook Air with the M1 chip and find that it performs the same tasks probably 3 to 4 times as quickly as the iMac.

I just saw that Samsung is introducing a new 27" smart monitor in late June. Name is M8; look is similar to the iMac; price not announced but pundits guess in the $600-700 range. Putting this together with a new M chipped mac mini sounds very enticing and won't break the bank.

I really do not think Apple will bring back a 27" model. Too bad! I find 27" is an ideal size to be able to see and work with two documents side-by-side when researching and updating.

Well, alan, I am glad that the 2T SSD has made you a happy camper! That’s great. Enjoy!!!

And Bob White-I agree about the 27” iMac being gone from the Apple lineup.

            I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro that I love but I kind of wish that I had a 2T SSD-I have a 1T SSD.

Bob; I have seen the press release (9to5mac.com) of the Samsung M8 32inch monitor (for $700us approx) and considered matching it with a mac mini, but have been holding off till the WWDC Apple are having in June.

The specs of the M8 are not upto to the Apple Studio Display (27") but of course the latter is a lot more expensive.

I think Apple will be adding updated M3 chips into their range.

Meanwhile will have to persevere with my iMac (late 2015)

My problem started just after the last update to macOS Ventura 13.4. I only have the problem when I start up Reunion. Once Started it is OK. I don't have any media attached and nothing running as far as browsers.

I too have been having problems with Reunion's slow response time for some weeks. I am running Reunion 13.0 on a late 2015 27" Mac running Monterey 12.6.8. I have plenty of room in my Dropbox account. I've been using Reunion for years and have never had problems before.
Is the problem that I have an old Mac? I am unable to update to Ventura because the 2015 Mac is no longer compatible. I really like the 27" screen but now that Apple have dropped the 27" Mac it is an expensive option to replace with a similar size of screen.
Can anyone help? It's really frustrating.

Mike; My iMac is the same as yours and using the same OS version. In my case I had to have a new hard-drive and the techs replaced the existing h/d with an SSD 2TB. It cost me AU$650 and will probably prolong the life for some years (so they say). It now really flies and is more responsive. To me it was the only option I had as the current 24" is not large enough for me.
But having said that, wait till the 13-9-23 when Apple are having a "Wonderlust" presentation and we'll see what new items they are going to release. (Iphones. ear-buds and iMacs???).
I think your old iMac would benefit from a new h/d which could be the less costly option.

Thanks Alan. I have a 3TB fusion drive. Probably not as quick as your SSD but it's always been pretty quick in the past.

Thanks also for the tip about 13 September. I'm not holding my breath but it's worth the wait to see what they announce!

                        Mike,
Does your new hard drive enable you to use the latest OS? - Sorry to say No. The iMac is too old. Only 12.6.8 Monterey.

No. Whether SSD, spinning or fusion, the drive is simply a storage place. Which operating system a computer can deploy is strictly related to the processor on the motherboard. (Note: One should plan to buy a new computer about every five to six years. That will usually keep one a year or two ahead of reaching that "it can't be updated any longer" event.)

I've been having the same problems described in this thread for about a month. I have a 27" 2017 iMac with the most current operating system update, i.e. Ventura 13.6. What is the best solution to fix these problems? It's really frustrating.

Ha, I have you all beat. I am using a 2012 27" iMac with High Sierra OS. It has a SSD, and a second large monitor. Reunion 13 still works perfectly fine on it. (However, I am looking at a Mac mini with a M2 Pro chip and two $170 27" monitors for Christmas (about 1000 bucks total.))

There is one thing that I have found that slows down workflow that hasn't been mentioned in this thread. When I do Find Relatives (usually for myself) it puts the results in the right hand sidebar. When the results are showing in the right hand sidebar, certain actions that you do will produce pauses, with the spinning wheel (I have about 80,000 people). (I DO NOT have Identify Relationships "on the fly" checked.)

To easily get around this, simply switch the right hand sidebar back to showing the normal list of people.
