    Folder Preferences for Family File

I just solved a problem with Dropbox and Reunion but in doing so, I discovered a puzzle.

In Preferences -> Folders -> Family Files, the first button is checked, i.e., Reunion’s default ~Documents/Reunion Files.

However, my family files are actually stored in Dropbox, not in my Documents file on the iMac.

If I open a family file and click Get Info, it confirms the File Location is: /Users/name/Dropbox…

Is this a problem? Should I change the Preference to Dropbox? Are there any problems one way or the other? I don’t want to “fix” something if it isn’t really broken! The Help screens don’t offer any cautions or guidance that I could find.

    Thanks!

Do you use ReunionTouch and/or using Dropbox for backup? If so, yes, that is where you want your family file(s)

Not a problem. It's the way Dropbox works. Your Dropbox cloud folder is mirrored on your local Mac or PC. On a Mac, the mirror folder is located at Macintosh HD > Users > YourName. For your iOS or Android devices, if you want a copy locally on the device, you have to check a box for each individual file to make it available on the device.

I have not used Dropbox's upload option in many years. I just drag the file to the local Dropbox folder and it immediately uploads a copy of the file to the cloud folder.

        ...Reunion’s default ~Documents/Reunion Files.

This is fine and you don't need to change anything.

Reunion's Folder Preferences for Family Files only applies when you create a new family file or when you import an existing family file. More specifically, this is default location you are taken to when you create a new family file or import an existing family file. If it turns out that the default location is incorrect, you would just navigate to the correct location.

If you don't create a lot of new family files and you don't import a lot of family files (and you probably don't) you will most likely never be affected by this setting.
