    Slow People List Window

When I open the People List window and attempt to filter the list by typing a surname in the search field, it immediately starts a tedious update of the list, which it repeats after each letter I type. Why can't it wait till I finish typing or why isn't it as fast as doing the same filtering from the People Sidebar? Why is the List window so much slower at filtering than the sidebar? My total people count is 12,381.

I don't know why using the people list window is slower than using the people sidebar, but you can try unchecking "update lists as you type in search fields" and see if it makes it easier to use the people list window. You can change that setting in "List behavior" under the General tab in Reunion Preferences. You'll find a good explanation of this by searching for "list behavior" in the help manual.

dwkiefer has the correct answer to that above.

If you have a larger family file and the sort order for People in the list window is something other than "Last Name, First Name" this list window may be slower.

At the bottom of the People List window click on the Sorting options (three vertical purple bars) and select the first sorting option.

I first tried the suggestion to change the sort field in the List window; it had been set to Birth Date. Changing that to Last Name, resulted in a significant speed improvement. But then I switched it back to Birth Date, and it still filtered fast. I did test unchecking "Update lists as you type in search fields" but with the "slow filter" problem already fixed, it didn't seem to be a factor. So I don't know what got me into the slow filtering mode. I'll just have to try to observe the circumstances if it starts happening again. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
