I am using myself as the source, and I have a portion of my tree back to 8 generations. My question is if I have 8 generations....then why does the family sheet say 6 generations?

That pic helped us all, Shelbyw I see what you meant now. SGilbert & Blaise A. Darveaux already answered your original question, so I won't repeat.
But I will confess, I often forget to count myself as a generationResearching Western NC and Northeast GA and any family connected to Caney Fork in Jackson County, NC

The chart of this ancestry line will show 9 generations in total. But if I asked you how many generations of your ancestors are shown, you, of course, would say 8 generations back.
