is there a way to "unflag" an individual ? For instance, when I Flag "Male Descendants" it also flags a few adopted children of that guy. When flagging DNA, this is not what I want. I don't have many of these occurrences, and I be fine with just unchecking that particular flag. Child Status - Adopted, doesn't seem to break that association.

but they aren't flags I've set. If I make "Relatives of J Michael Deigan" in Color Tags, and make that a Green Flag, then everyone related to me gets a green tag/flag. Including adopted people I am not related to by blood.
"Female Descendant line of ..." works the same way. If I'm tracing MTDNA or YDNA I don't wanted adopted people flagged in that Color Tag.
I understand some people, in many/most case want adopted included, but I guess a way to delete a particular flag would help. (these are calculated on the fly, yes ? that would complicate it)
Or maybe, am I missing an actual way to define each parent child relationship in a family card as adopted ? Then you could optin/optout adopted children ? I mean I'm not saying they aren't actual children, but they aren't DNA children, which is what I’m trying to show.

I believe flags are not calculated on the fly, but rather only set or cleared when set or cleared in the Change panel. (I'm not much of a flag user, but charts on the other hand...)
You asked about unflagging an individual, and I'm pretty sure my suggestion works for that. Can't speak to working in automatic exceptions to the global changes.

these kinds of Flags (Relative of, Descendant of) do not appear in the list of Flags when you go into the Edit Screen. I assume because they are system generated ? By "on the fly" I mean when you add a person to the file Reunion evaluates them for those types of Flags, and just makes the Flag appear if they satisfy the test. I guess, for me, if those Flags also showed up in the Edit/Flag list, AND were sticky, then I'd be happy.

actually, I guess "Male Descendant of" and "Relative of" aren't Flags, they are Color Tags. Maybe what I want is an Edit Color Tags tab next to the Flags tab in the Edit menu ???Last edited by Mike Deigan; 14 March 2024, 02:01 PM.

I see your problem. It would be nice if as a new app feature, people with Child Status and their descendants could in fact be excluded from the bloodline tags. Maybe that's worth posting in the Wish List Forum.
That being said, I wonder if maybe flags might actually be the right solution for the moment. One can do an advanced find on people using the criteria of--for example--Male Descendant Line of [whomever] AND Child Status Is Not [adopted]. One can then mark the results and Set a new flag for them. It would have to be maintained manually as the family file grows.

it would have to be on a one-to-one basis (sometimes a father might adopted the bio child of his wife)
question: "One can then mark the results and Set a new flag for them", having marked the group, how do I make a new flag for these marked people ??? Also, I have to think more about it, if the "Relationship of" is for the adopted child, you don't have a way to exclude the adopted parents ? I mean there's no "Parent Status Adopted" to grab on to.
it's not a big deal. I just think we should have a way to specify non-DNA relatives. I have adopted that are tracing their bio families, and I'd like to be able to basically do both viewpoints.
