Changing relationship name for divorced spouses or couples who never married

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the relationship type to something other than "Spouse" in a couple of different circumstances:
1. After changing my marriage status to divorce, my ex-husband is still listed as my spouse. I would very much prefer "Ex-spouse" or some other designation.
2. My niece had a child with her former partner and is now married to someone else. Her child's father is listed as her first husband, so as far as the record goes, she is now on husband number two. I got around this issue somewhat by setting her actual husband as the preferred spouse, but it's still misidentifying the relationship.
Has anyone found a workaround for this type of issue, or are my niece and I stuck with these guys as our spouses forever, genealogy-wise? Thanks!

You have a choice as to who to include in the Relatives List (click on the gear icon below the Relatives List), but as far as I know, the only choice you have for labels is granduncle/grandaunt versus greatuncle/greataunt. I think you will have to let the Marriage status of Divorced say it all. You may want to put a request in the wish list for this.

Thank you, Blaise, that'll be a good workaround for printouts. It's definitely going on the wish list!

One suggestion I can offer amongst those listed, is my entry;

In the space where you would normally enter places of marriage, where the person(s) never married i type in "Never Married" (without the quotes).

Not perfect but it does work.

While that might work, keep in mind that Reunion considers "Never Married" as an attribute for one person. It means that that person never married in their life (hopefully supported by some source saying that, not merely by lack of evidence.) If two people were a couple (usually by virtue of having one or more children) and not married, Reunion calls this "Unmarried".

"Never Married" for one person is selected by pulling down the plus-sign menu for adding spouses and parents in the family view (Never Married is on the bottom of that menu).

Unmarried for a couple is selected in the marriage event window by clicking on the Marriage button that reveals several types of unions and selecting "Unmarried".

Yes,and wouldn’t it be great if when choosing “Never Married” there was the ability to attach a source / citation.

Blaise, thanks for mentioning the "Never Married" feature - I've only recently started using the preferred spouse option, and didn't even notice that was there.

It's not a very elegant solution, but the Notes section could be used to indicate that someone was never married and then add the source(s) from there.

I'm married for the third time, I have no issues with my exes being recognised as spouses... in whatever format Reunion chooses to label it... my choice to marry and divorce.

What really annoys me is ancestry refusing to now give a gender when it adds a spouse from a marriage record. Up until recently, men married women... end of and vice-versa. Ancestry won't recognise people of the same name/dob etc. if they're of different genders, and want to duplicate people. *now* that is a problem that continues on a daily basis, unlike the personal preference for a spouse not to be called a spouse!
