I assume that Thumbnails (multimedia) files are not counted towards .familyfile13 file-size-limits because our file size is 3 GB but most of that is the Thumbnails folder. Tell me I shouldn't worry...

As long as things are working fine for you on your Mac, I would not worry about it.
The 1GB limit specified in the Reunion manual was set many years ago when hard drive sizes/RAM amounts/processor speeds were limited much more than they are now. Therefore, we have decided to make an update to the manual in which there will be no familiy file size limit specified as the family file really has no size limitation that can be summed up in one line. (I.e., it varies from computer to computer based on the limits of each computer.)
