Entire family tree duplicated

I have been away from my family tree for a while and see I have one file in which every person is duplicated and has different numbers, it would seem I have imported a GEDCOM file and the duplication not recognised. One name has multimedia attached, the other non.

Apart from going through the whole file is there a way to remove duplicates?

Have you tried doing a Rebuild Cache Files? It's the last choice in the File menu.

For starters, try looking at the Islands sidebar. Your Islands should be duplicated if you imported the same family file into itself.

Using the Islands sidebar to mark people and then deleting marked people would then be a possible solution.

However, before you do anything - make a backup copy of this family file so that you can revert back to this copy if something goes wrong.

Greg thanks, I find I have Islands 1 & 2 are almost identical, 1363 people 28 generations and 1340 people 28 generations, and number of Islands with very small numbers. Would I be right in thinking Island 1 being larger is likely to be the more recent version and I delete the whole of Island 2. Does deleting people effect the multi media? Possibly silly questions or assumptions but I would hate to loose things. I HAVE MADE A BACK UP. Thanks for any help

The island containing the 1340 people is most likely the bulk of the duplicates that can be deleted. To confirm this, mark just those 1340 people and then navigate around your family file to make sure that the main branch that you work in does not have any marked people.

Deleting people will not impact media.

I have a similar problem with duplicated people. Island 1 has 11085 people. It is followed by some 10,000 islands each with 1 to 10 people. The easiest route is to delete island 1. I can mark the people all right, but do not know how, then, to delete them or must I manually go to each person? Also, it appears that Reunion does not offer an option to use existing RINs when importing a Gedcom, so many of my notes, source data etc. will refer to different people. Is there a way to fix that?

Further to the above, I have worked out how to delete marked or unmarked records and I am now going through some 10,000 entries, one by one to ensure that I remove duplicated records only. But what an exercise!! Not very user friendly... Is there some way to avoid having so many duplicated records when importing a Gedcom file? Does Reunion 14 fix that?
