Notes - Maximum number of characters

I am interested to know how others overcome the problem of the maximum number of characters for an individual in Notes. At the moment I am creating a source document and enter an instruction in the Notes to click on the link to read the balance of information. While being a little clumsy I can live with this situation when reading on the data base or on a web project on the mac. But it will not work when reading in a reunion book, which is my preferred way of sharing my completed works.

I am currently faced with this maximum for several individuals and quite likely will have more as time goes by.

I have never hit the limit for characters in Notes. I give source documents (large or small) a source citation number. Then I use that source citation number when I am referring to the source in an event, fact, or notes. I have no need to replicate an entire source directly in Notes. And even though I have a couple individuals that have complicated histories, I certainly don't write enough of my own prose to come any where near the limit of characters.

I was suggesting that you could use a source document purely as a work around so that the reader was able to have the full story at their fingertips. And they would get this by clicking on the source link.

I have had this issue, but I can't say that I run book reports. To get around it I create extra custom note fields. In the example below I needed to summarize a 2000 page supreme court document and split the text into three note fields.

Thank you very much this works wonderfully well when I am working in the program itself. I have entered a prompter saying select Misc Notes Contd. It operates smoothly but I am losing the ability of selecting the continued notes because they don't appear in the reports. Have I done something wrong?

Does your setup as shown above, work in any reports you make? How do you share that extra information with others?

Another option would be to lobby Leister Productions to increase the limit on the length of a Notes field.

Yes. Make sure that you define your layout to include them. When you go to the report you want to generate, select layout > define layout. Click what you want to include.
