    Reorganise Sources ?

After many years my list of sources is a very long mess and it’s difficult to find stuff. Is it possible to re-order or re-number or even group sources so that there’s some structure and logic to them. And if so, will the numbered references automatically update in the Person fields in which they appear? Any help greatly appreciated!

When "All" sources are listed in the Sources sidebar, it is possible to sort them alphabetically either by Source Template or by Source Data. To do this, click on the "Data" or the "Template" field header at the top of the Sources sidebar.

If either of these methods is done, the source numbers will remain the same and they will continue to be linked to the same people/fields.

Would either of these options do what you're wanting?

I've found it useful for sorting sources to create a source field that does not appear in the source citation and make that created source field the top field in each of my sources. You can do that in Reunion Settings > Sources > Fields and clicking the Add Field button. If you make that created field the top field in your templates it will be there automatically when new sources are created. I've given the name "Abbreviation" to the field I created for this purpose, checked the "Exclude from endnotes" box so the field does not appear in the citations, and used the GEDCOM tag "ABBR" (without the quotations) because I've found this field will transfer to some other genealogy software through GEDCOM exports. By having this field at the top of the fields list in your sources whatever you enter in that field will appear at the beginning of the source in the sources list. You can enter whatever you find most useful for sorting without that information appearing in the source citation. For example, if you use entries such as "Census, US, 1850, Tom Jones" or "Obituary, Tom Jones" and sort the source list alphabetically all census entries will appear together and all obituary entries will appear together without affecting the source citations.
