Failed GEDCOM export of URLs in Note field

It is very useful having the ability to create URLs in a note field. However, this usefulness is lost when exporting the note field to a GEDCOM file. The URL is just replaced by the name of the link in plain text, so the original purpose of the link is lost.

Is this a bug or feature, and if so could this be changed in a future update by including the appropriate html for the link in the GEDCOM?

I put URLs into notes and other fields sometimes simply as the URL, and other times use the HTML code for a URL. My only use for the GEDCOM file is getting information to my website for TNG to display, where a note that contains this

    image.png

which TNG then displays as expected.

In recent years TNG itself is now capable of seeing a URL written out and turning that into a link automatically.

How are you using the URL in your situation - where do you export it to that it's of use to have it work?

Thanks for the reply Roger. I use GEDCOM export for creating my websites with John Cardinal's GedSite. Like you, I use the HTML code for URLs in Reunion notes and they are converted by GedSite into proper links on the websites.

The problem arises in making Reunion Books with the same Reunion files - the books include the hardwired HTML as text. Ideally I would like to replace the HTML statements in notes with hyperlinks, using Make Link, and for Reunion to show the link as HTML in its GEDCOM export, rather than just the name of the link.

I don't think there is any way around this with the current Reunion GEDCOM export capability, so I am exploring John Cardinal's Gedcom Publisher. It creates e-books, and Calibre seems to do a great job in converting ePub files to pdf.
