    QuickDraw-Pict not compatible anymore?

My Reunion files have a couple hundred of images in the Apple QuickDraw-Pict format. They do not show anymore in Reunion.
I found a way to convert them into jpg files in a batch process. But I can not replace the QuickDraw against the jpg, although the name is exactly the same (by truncating the extension .jpg)
Any idea how to solve this problem?
A side effect is, that reunion for each quickdraw-pict starts a searching process which takes quite some time and can not be interrupted or stopped. (2-3 minutes blocking the system)

Take a look at http://justsolve.archiveteam.org/wiki/PICT. It has several software suggestions toward the end of the article. Another article at https://www.lifewire.com/pct-file-2622172 has some good info also.

Bob, Thank you for your advice. It is not the problem to convert the QuickDraw to jpeg (I use GarphicConverter which does a great job in converting all QuickDraw in batch to jpeg.
The problem is to replace the filename.pict to filenmae.jpg So far it looks like the only way is to manually add the *.jpg to the folder and add it to the person (or other items).
Would be great to find an easier way….

Since you are a fellow Graphic Converter fan.... will this work? Unknown to me if it does batch changes.

Whether it does or not - that's irrelevant. The question is about whether there's a way after all the images have converted to .jpg files, for Reunion to link them automatically to where the .pict files have been previously linked. Rather than having to do them one at a time.

I've just done a trial of linking a .pict image to a family in Reunion 14 and Reunion 14 wouldn't show it in the media window (that actually seems to be a macOS problem as Preview won't show them either but Photoshop 2024 will).

I converted it to .jpeg, and deleted the .pict version of it, and Reunion could not find it - I had to show Reunion 14 where it was, so Reunion's ability to track photos where they might get moved to on your hard drive can not keep track of a photo if you change its format - and that's hardly surprising.

So relinking them one at a time is likely going to be needed.

The out of the box method I can think of might be worth a try would be to convert all the images to .jp(e)g with the .jpg files in the same location as the .pict files were.

Export a GEDCOM file out of Reunion, and include the Media

Open that GEDCOM file in a text editor and change all instances of

          .pict

          to

.jpeg (or .jpg to match what the new files got named to)

          Save the GEDCOM file

Create a clone of your current family file with no records and open that - close the original file first.

Import the GEDCOM file into the new empty file and see if that gets all the images that are not jpeg files into the right places.

          Worth a shot?

Roger, thanks for your answer and hi level research/advice. I tried similar ways which did not work. But I will have a look, if your suggestions open a different way.
All in all it shows, that Reunion has quite a complicated media system. I did not find out the differences in Version 14 (which is handling media in a different way) but it doubt that this is solving my problem
What I tried now, I added the converted media file into the same folder and reload the converted file. (fortunately, my OLD quickdraw library is less than 200 photo. I started using Reunion with version 1.x in 1991 - when QuickDraw was the state of the art (with Apples camera QuickTake...)

And, as I’ve found from trying to find and replace missing photos, SOME QuickDraw shots do show — in both Preview and Reunion. Strange!

Now that I've found a relatively easy way to convert to .jpg using LibreOffice, how can I now list all the QuickDraw PICTs in Reunion to do so?
