    Problem entering dates

I've suddenly started having problems with Reunion recognising how I enter dates. Not how it displays them - that's absolutely fine - but how it interprets my keystrokes when I write full dates with day, month and year.

I've got Reunion set up to display dates in the format 12 Mar 2024, and I generally enter them using the number pad on the keyboard as "12.3.24" (or "12.3.1924" if before 1925). But suddenly that doesn't work any more. If I enter 12.3.24, I get 3 Dec 2024; if I enter a date that's impossible in US format, say 13.12.24, it doesn't recognise it at all. It also doesn't recognise 2024-03-12, which it also used to. It does recognise dates entered exactly as I've set up Reunion to display them, so 12 Mar 2024.

The bug (if that's what it is) arose when I installed Sonoma on my Mac yesterday (OS 14.4.1), after which Reunion 13 wouldn't recognise the date inputs. I upgraded to Reunion 14 and the problem persists. Everything about my OS is set to Swedish - language, time zone, date format, whatever. I also haven't changed my OS settings since the previous version, but if I do change the default OS date settings, it makes no difference to what Reunion does. I didn't have this problem last time I updated the OS.

If I must, I can live with either remembering to enter days and months the "wrong" way round or writing dates longhand, but it's a minor irritant that I feel sure should be solvable. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Sue, Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try that but only at a point where I know I won't be using Reunion for a while, as it takes ages!

When a date that has been entered in the format 12-3-2024 Reunion looks at your System Settings > General > Language & Region > Date format setting to see if the month or the day comes first in numeric dates. However, if you have explicitly selected a numeric only date format in Reunion, then the date format system setting on your Mac is ignored.

In the US the selected date format in the system settings is 8/19/2024. Most countries outside of the US have a date format of 19/8/2024 selected.

        Here are some options...

        • When doing data entry in Reunion select the '28/1/1980' date format in Reunion - then, when creating reports switch back to '28 Jan 1980'.

        • As you said, you can always enter the 3-letter month name to avoid any ambiguity.

        • Or, you can go into your System Settings and set the Date format to 19.8.2024. I can't say if doing this will cause any unexpected behavior in other apps or the Finder, but you can try it.

The thing I don't understand is that the system settings are already set to European date format, and always have been (I'm in Europe and always have been!). There wasn't a problem before I upgraded the OS, with the same settings in both Reunion and MacOS.

              I don't understand that either.

Can you send a screen shot of your System Settings > General > Language & Region panel.

Sorry for the delay, here's the screenshot:

The default setting for date is the format 2024-04-05 but I've tried changing it to all of the various d-m-y options and there's no change in how Reunion reacts.

Just as a test. You are working with the swedish localisation. Try and test again when your localised version is not active. With Dutch localisation no problems with date entry of 12.3.24 gives the correct display date of 12 maart 2024.

Try changing the date format in your System Settings to 19/8/24.

Bingo! That worked, thanks. The only odd thing is that I was convinced I'd tried with all the d-m-y formats in the system settings. Evidently not... Anyway, minor problem now solved
