    Media being deleted

I attached some media to an event highlighting the event and then dragging the media to the event media field. What I discovered was that if you decide to delete an event for whatever reason (or by mistake) and you do not remove the media first and drag back to general media, the media is deleted from that person and is no longer in the general media.

Either, i'm doing something wrong or this is a bug.

You're not doing anything wrong, however, this is as expected.

If you have media linked to an event, the link to that media will be deleted if the event is deleted.

IOW: If you've moved a media item from the general media to an event, that media item is no longer in the general media, it is linked only to that event.

I hope that addresses your concern.

I learned the hard way that you need to put any media back before deleting an event unfortunately. Maybe add a warning to deleting giving people the option of going back and moving media to general.

        That’s a good suggestion.

Just downloaded Reunion14 and dragged media to a highlighted event - love this feature. I understand the need to move media back to general media area before deleting event BUT when I first add/attach media to an event should I delete it from the general media space? I'm think I should just to clean things up a bit. Tks.

If you are dragging a media item from general media to an event or a fact field for the same person or family then the media item will be removed from general and added to the destination field - there will be no need to delete the media item from the general. Actually, you won't be able to delete it from general because it will have been removed for you when you did the drag.

Note that the above is only true when moving media within the same person or family record. If you drag a media item from one person to a different person or a family record, the original media item will remain in place and be copied to the destination of the drag.

Yep, you are correct. I accidentally pulled her husband memorial stone to burial event versus hers. Now I feel very silly. I missed having this feature (I previously used RootsMagic for Macs) but now I am going to go back thru my database and attach media to events. Thanks so much for all your work and responsiveness with our questions.

I've noticed that when doing an option/drag (copy) of a media item from general media to an event or fact field, a copy of that media is placed at the bottom of the general media window (it actually does the same thing with a straight move). This effectively creates a "second copy" and appears twice when creating a Web Project report with "media pages" turned on. I found the only way to prevent this in the web report is to mark the second media image as sensitive. My opinion is a second copy is "clutter" and adds no value.

One thing I've noticed is that when I had a photo marked as primary in 13, when I move that photo to an event in 14 it loses its primary notation and primary cannot be selected again. When I could find no other photos of an individual in 13 I would mark their FaG memorial stone as primary as this would allow a photo to be shown. It would be nice if we could notate any photo as being primary. One other thing, when adding media to a marriage, that document stays in the media window without notating that it was added to marriage as I see when adding media to a Census record. Seems to be an inconsistency in how media is handled. Tks.

Only general media items can be checked as ‘preferred.’ Once a media item has been moved to a field it can no longer be used as the preferred picture for that person.

You make a good case for removing that limitation.

We will look into changing this in a future update.

I hope you do decide to remove that limitation, photos, even memorial stones, add value. Thank you for considering.
