selected file cannot be used for this media item

In trying to update items in my family file which have lost their link to the file linked, I'm getting the following message in a number of instances when I try to link a new file to an item in the family file list of multimedia - "selected file cannot be used for this media item". Que pasa?

Tell us what format the file is. There is a limited list of which types of files Reunion will work with.
Bob White, Mac Nut Since 1985, Reunion Nut Since 1991
Jenanyan, Barnes, White, Duncan, Dunning, Hedge and more
    iMac/MacBookAir M1 - iPhonePro/iPadPro - Reunion14 & RT

Can't remember specifically - but my files are pretty much .jpg or .pdf - with an occasional .png. All these are (should be) accepted by Reunion. I'll open the errant file in its mother program and resave it - and it still won't be accepted by Reunion. Happened in a number of instances yesterday.

However, today, all files are in place in Reunion. I'd substitute a .jpg file for a .pdf, or something like that for the files in question. Don 't know why I needed to go through that routine.
