In order to share a family file with another Mac user so both of us can make corrections or additions, shall the .familyfile look like a file or a folder?
Where do i find instructions, and where is the Dropbox folder located?

The family file icon is the second one you posted (with the 3 people figures and the word "Family").

By way of complete explanation, however, the Reunion family file is actually a macOS "package." A package is a special type of folder made to look & behave like a single file. Sometimes non-Mac programs use a folder icon to represent a package file.

There have been reports of Dropbox changing the Reunion family file to an actual folder. If this is happening to you, contact Reunion support at help@leisterpro.com

Regarding the location of your Dropbox folder, it depends on the version of macOS you are using.

- Up to & including Catalina the default location was /Users/yourusername/Dropbox but you could change that location at will.

- In Monterey and more recent releases of macOS the Dropbox folder location is /Users/yourusername/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox. The Library folder is hidden and the location of the Dropbox folder cannot be changed. However, the Dropbox folder should be visible in the Finder sidebar under "Locations."
