I have a situation I don't understand. My brother-in-law's (Ernie) father (Howard) was married twice and is entered with two spouses in my Reunion file. If I create a relative chart with Howard as the source, then the chart correctly displays the family - one box with Howard and spouse 1 and another box with Howard and spouse 2. However, if I create a relative chart with Ernie as the source, then Howard is shown incorrectly - one box with Howard, one box with spouse 1 connected by a line, and one box with Howard and spouse 2. I would greatly appreciate some help in resolving this problem.

In order to make the relative chart readable and not have lines crossing, branches overlapping and jammed together - direct line ancestors of the source couple are split into separate boxes that are connected with a horizontal line. The relative chart is the only chart that will do this.
When Howard is the source of the chart, his box is not a direct line ancestor.
However, when Ernie (Howard's son) is the source, then Howard is a direct line ancestor of the relative chart's source and the box for his family will be split.
I hope that makes sense.Gregg Witmer
